Revcoo partners with Reazn to decarbonise the zinc industry
Revcoo, a specialist in carbon capture for industry, is taking a major new step in the deployment of its technology. The cleantech company is partnering with Reazn, a specialist in recycled zinc, to deploy a CO2 capture unit at its Kruisem plant in Belgium. This partnership marks a key milestone in advancing the decarbonisation of the zinc industry.
Building on a mature technology, Revcoo expands into new market segments
Capturing carbon dioxide from industrial flue gases to reduce CO2 emissions: this is the solution developed by French startup Revcoo through an innovative technology that is non-toxic, solvent-free, waste-free, water-free and 100% electric. In practice, its patented CarbonCloud solution draws in industrial flue gases, separates CO2 from the other gases by freezing it, and then conditions it in liquid or gaseous form. The CO2 captured from the flue gas, with a guaranteed purity of 99.99%, is then containerised for transport, utilisation or sequestration, independently of future CO2 infrastructure.
CarbonCloud addresses the needs of industrial companies facing both regulatory constraints (carbon allowances) and the need to decarbonise in order to remain competitive. Following the lime and cement industries, Revcoo is now expanding into other markets, including metals, an energy-intensive sector. As a turnkey, all-in-one solution that does not alter production processes, the technology is compatible with facilities of all sizes, including geographically dispersed sites and energy-intensive industries.
A partnership to capture up to 8,000 tonnes of CO2 per year
In Kruisem, East Flanders, Reazn operates a zinc alloy production plant. The company is already pursuing an ambitious decarbonisation pathway without compromising the high quality and reliability of its products. A recognised pioneer in the circular economy, notably through its upcycling process, Reazn produces zinc alloys with an extremely low carbon footprint while reducing waste and energy consumption. To further advance its decarbonisation efforts, Reazn is partnering with Revcoo to deploy CarbonCloud technology at its Kruisem site, with a capture capacity of up to 5,000 to 8,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.
The first step will be a joint technical and economic feasibility study. Following this initial phase, the project is expected to move into engineering studies for this first-of-a-kind installation. Subject to successful results, the framework agreement provides for deployment of the technology at the Belgian site by the end of 2028.
« CarbonCloud is a promising solution because it integrates directly into our manufacturing process without disrupting operations and with a very low industrial risk profile. Its compact footprint, 100% electric and water free operation, and the absence of chemical solvents are major advantages for our industry. For Reazn, this partnership is another step towards reducing our environmental impact and accelerating the transition to a more sustainable future, » explains Jean Gouverneyre, Co-CEO of Reazn.
« A significant new market is opening up for Revcoo. This project demonstrates our ability to meet the growing needs of industrial companies for which reducing CO2 emissions is particularly challenging. Beyond this future installation, an entire sector is preparing for the transition towards a net-zero industry across Europe. Our technology, which now guarantees high-purity CO2 that is fully compliant with specifications and quality controlled directly at the capture site, represents a turning point for the CCUS (Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage) market, » says Hugo Lucas, Founder and President of
Revcoo.
About Revcoo
Founded in Lyon in 2019, Revcoo is a French cleantech company specialising in carbon capture for industry. Its CarbonCloud technology draws in industrial flue gases, separates CO2 from the other gases using a cryogenic process, and then conditions it in liquid or gaseous form. It is designed for unavoidable emissions, i.e. CO2 emissions that cannot be eliminated even when an industrial operator uses clean energy sources (cement, lime, metals, etc.).
